Lately things have been crazy, as most of you know. Living the corporate life, days are between twelve to fourteen hours, though the work is very interesting.

Quick, put the data together! We’ve to present in ten minutes to the executives.
When asking someone to relay an experience, the information received will accepted on a credibility scale depending on how well I know the person and their idiosyncrasies. Those who are known to embellish, use hyperbolas, omit things of little interest to them, use a form of narrative ellipsis, etc. In short, I’ll interpret the interlocutor’s interpretation.
Work is strange. I spent about 20 years in various schools. Some taught me to colour within the lines. Some taught me quadratic equations. Some taught me to differentiate between necessary and sufficient preconditions. All taught me that few people are confident and secure enough to be openly genuine. All showed me that most people will feign enjoying someone’s company for disingenuous reasons (OMG you’ve that video game? Let’s hang out! OMG you know that person? Let’s hang out! OMG you took that course last semester? Let’s hang out!). Most people will hide how they really feel about me but will be comfortable expressing it to others (you know that person at work/school/pub who makes hilarious jokes at others’ expense? Did you hear the one about you?). Few spend time with me because it might lead to something (contacts, expertise, etc.) rather than choosing to spend time with me because they enjoy my company. The few who are genuine will actually involve me in fun things, make an effort to contact me and, most important, will not be a bloody sycophant. They’ll say no. They’ll refute an opinion. They’ll be them.
